A bowl of Christmas joy

Broken Light.
Although simple this canvas has such a strong meaning. I made this canvas for a close friend. Using water colours and texture pasted  I made this beautiful  blue textured background.(blue just happens to be the colour of his favourite football team) I've used small amounts of embellishments  making the main focus the wording "We are all broken That's how the light gets in" I embellished using white flowers, straw, chipboard painted black and a few glass pebbles.

Family Portrait
This one of a kind layout was made as a Christmas gift for my oldest brother and after 14 years we were able to get the whole family together for this beautiful photo. I lightly misted and scrunched the page and than laced it through some white card stock. I embellished using a hand made feather, enamel stickers, muslin, fibres, chipboard, resin and a little bit of distressing was added.

A bowl of Christmas joy.
This Christmas table piece was by far one of the joyful things I've made.
Using a verity of embellishments; flowers, Christmas cerements, light bulb trinket, beads, a resin clock, chipboard, fanned out string pearls and last but definitely not least a large amount of hot glue to keep it all together.

   Summer Cruising.
This grey blue canvas features my son heading towards New Zealand on a cruise ship (lucky duck got to travel before me) Texturing and white sponging got me the perfect grey blue background adding honey comb craft& floral ribbon, a verity of Prima trinkets plus a few others, an enamel anchor badge, cerements and a black frame around the image pulled the canvas together nicely

A little more catch up

I am strong Layout.
This is a simple yet beautiful layout of my daughter. Her journey to self worth has been amazing and she is finally secure in her self. I've decided to tear the larger backing page and than stitch it slightly together at the top and bottom, I've than added a distressed page over the centre of the layout, I've used the words "strong, beautiful and worthy" to show the key characteristics of my daughter that she's has come to see in herself. Lastly I embellished using trinkets and flower and also creating a dream catcher with a heart base.

Be happy Canvas
This next piece took longer then any other project I have ever done, I think it took me about 3 weeks to complete and made my studio look like a bomb went off. I have used lots of flowers, chipboard, acetate, resin, and lots of trinkets along with gesso,  twinkling watercolours, and texture paste masking.

Neighbourly Love, This beautiful layout captures the beautiful love between my two amazing neighbours. Using puffy stickers, fussy cutting, die cuts, enamel stickers/ badge, sequins and a blue tassel. Along with using those I used two chipboard pieces, A small love heart and the words "love you" showing the relationship between my neighbours also giving the page a loved up feel and making it cute.

Hey There Sister. My two oldest girls are at that terrible age where it's hard to find them not fighting so I took the opportunity to capture them being peaceful and not at each others throats of course with phones in their hands they seem to be getting along. I gently white washed and distressed the page. I used several off cuts to layer the image then embellished with layer stickers, 3D tape, muslin, microbeads,a hand made feather arrow, canvas flower, gems and a small clip

Playing catch up

Over the past few months I have had a few personal hassles that have taken up quite a bit of my time.
I have however been doing a little bit of creating and have finally found some time to catch up on my blog thanks to the wonderful support of my 2 eldest daughters Rachel and Katie. Without these 2 amazing girls in my life I don't know how I would function at all. With that in mind I have scrapped my son and my daughters. I am always inspired by their incredible support that they have for me now and over the past 14 years as a single mum.

Going back to July whist at a family BBQ my mum took some photos of me with my 2 eldest daughters and I have to admit that my mum is starting to embrace the new technology and used her tablet to take them and they turned out really good. So I have created a beautiful canvas of the 3 of us I have used a variety of techniques and products to put this piece together, along with a heap of flowers and a great number of trinkets as always.

My next piece is something a little different. Firstly I have used a printed acetate sheet and a needle work ring. This piece also has no photo just lots of embellishments.

In August I set my mind to making a similar piece to an earlier canvas which was based on my favourite song "Amazing Grace" see post dated 30 June 2016. This time I used the same size canvas and printed some of the words to the song "Oceans" and soft touches of colour. I used some beautiful resin wings I was given some years ago. Again I have fallen in love with the finished piece.

Always step outside your comfort zone.

Well everyone loves a blog challenge but how often do we actually use a mood board  to truly challenge ourselves to step outside the comfort zone and and try something new. This month the Kraft+ blog did exactly that.

I could have easily have created a layout and used a single tassel in a cluster of flowers and embellishments but instead I pushed myself and use multiple tassels on my layout. (and I might add that it took me a few attempts before I was truly happy)
As we are all very conscious of the cost of some embellishment making them can often be very rewarding both financially and creatively I found that a pack of tassels can be quiet costly if you use more then one or you want your tassels to be the same as the pack often only has one of each colour or design so with this in mind I took to making them myself. They are not hard to make but can be a bit fiddly. Anyway enough of me rambling, here is what I came up with for the month of August's beautiful Kraft plus challenge.

Unending Love

For years now I have want to incorporate all the things that are dear to me into my art. My children a favourite song a favourite place or plant and even my faith in God. When I started this piece I was merely pushing myself to use a solo color on a canvas with a hint of white to offset it. I had no idea that I would be so in love with the end result as pink is not a favorite color and I tend to shy away from using it. So as I began layering the flowers and trinkets on the canvas I grew more and more attached that I was propelled to make it special to me in some way.

Amazing grace is one of my all time favourite hymns I have to admit I would not be the person I am today as this hymn has seen me through some of the darkest moments and some of the most amazingly important moments of my life.In recent time Chris Tomlin wrote his more modern day version of the song calling it  Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). in Chris's version he sings a line Unending love Amazing Grace. this is where I got my title from .

keeping all the pieces together with love

Hi again today I want to share this fun layout that I put together for the Kraftplus June Challenge.
Having recently moved to Brisbane I have left my son who is now 20 behind in Toowoomba and I don't get to see much of him anymore, (thank goodness for mobile phones) and we miss him like crazy as he is the eldest and only son of my five children. I have recently discovered a great little shop that sells lots of seconds and I found exactly what I needed to do this layout A puzzle.

I have had some fun trying and testing some new ideas with my embellishments using painted jigsaw pieces as part of my title. I have also taken my photo and cut it into jigsaw pieces then separated my son from the main picture (as he no longer lives at home) I have then chosen a simple sentiment about this and used it to conect the 2 parts of the puzzle. I also chose to stamp the letters of family on the extra puzzle piece I also included a small heart embellishment into the sentiment. I also drew a few puzzle pieces onto the craft in pencil that show faintly in the background and completed the page with some inking round the puzzle pieces and the edge of the page that coordinate with the flowers.

Product list
Kraft paper
Typo puzzle pieces
Tim Holtz distress inks
Prima flowers
lace from Bella Paperie
Lemon craft button flairs
Dusty Attic chipboard
The Scrap Cottage hand dyed muslin

Thanks for looking,       much love Dee..ooxx

Fun with filters.

Everywhere I look I see these silly little filters on photos.Even though it is winter here in Australia Scrap the Girls have given me a  nice reminder that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. (cause I really do hate winter, well maybe just not my boots and my big warm jackets but that is it) So to make me feel nice and warm and freshen up my house I have used the June mood board as my inspiration for this layout along with a photo that has a puppy filter on it.
With the use of 3d tape and texture paste I have given added depth and then allowed the watercolor paint to run around and behind the elements not just over the top of them. I also distressed the white cardstock and backed it with a contrasting patterned paper.

Product list
Kaisercraft cardstock
My Minds Eyes "find your wings and fly" papers
Prima Marketing flowers, canvas resist and gesso

Luminarte watercolors.

Counting down the days till spring. (82) Thanks for looking, much love Dee. xxoo
